Finally! I posted some of that stuff from the office we cleaned out! I posted like 8 hard drives in the last couple of days. Now I’ve got the bug. Once I get the box of cables up from the basement, I can get moving on the pile that has accumulated. I also have some non-technical stuff that my friend gave me to sell that needs to go online as well. I just need to take pictures of the loot and start posting.
So, once again, I have begun the idea of starting my own computer business. It’s the next logical step in my evolution as a geek. I’ve always wanted to walk into my own store and say “Behold! for I am the master of all I survey!” Ok, maybe not those exact words, perhaps something like “I’m not even supposed to be here today!” or “I love the smell of technology in the morning”. I dunno, if it happens, great, if not, then it wasn’t meant to be. So, what should the name be? Uber-Geek’s hideout, Geek Warehouse, The den of geekdom? World of Warcraft store? Hehe, the last one would be awesome until people realized what it really was.
Wow, major run-on sentence. So you might ask yourself, “why start your own business if you have a good job?” Good question. The hours would be long, the pay small, but you know what, at the end of the day, when I close the doors and say “I’ve done it”, then it will all be worth it.
I would have good hours, I would start at 11 am, because there are few people who need tech at 8:30. I would close around 7 or 8, because people will be coming home from work, and that’s when they need their tech fix. I’d start off selling components and software, and repairing and upgrading PC’s. I would put up the occasional gamer pc or basic office pc offering to get my product out there. After a while, I would start building custom PC’s for people. I would like to get a graphics artist in the airbrush custom cases and mod out ones to look really slick. One of my goals this year is to make a military radio-looking Pc, something that is all rugged-looking, that would be sweet.
I would really like to get my hands on a digital FRS radio and a micro pc and make a pack for my airsoft vest that has video, sound, communications, and GPS integrated. Almost like the new virtual soldier layouts they have now. Maybe someday. I just read an ad for a radio-controlled helicopter that has a camera in it. If I could build one with a bigger, more robust camera that could transmit to a mobile source, hello personal UAV. That would rock the hizzy.
Oh well, I’m getting ahead of myself. Time for bed, tomorrow is another thankless, thoughtless day in the salt mines.
