Parting is such sweet sorrow

Today is a sad day in the life of a Geek, my iPaq 3835 has bit the dust. Cortona is no more.

I feel as though I’ve lost a good friend to some terrible cancer. You see, the internal battery has failed, and now she won’t even turn on.

I, I don’t know how I’ll go on, she was my right-hip, my backup brain. I feel cold.

Ok, for those of you who REALLY know me, you know that things like this don’t make me all emo, I was just having a bit of fun with ya. Seriously though, the battery only costs like $16.00 on eBay, so payday, and a week later, she’ll be back on my hip, reminding me of appointments, keeping my money up to date, and hacking into wireless networks connecting to free wi-fi hotspots.

Sunday was tech day for me since my better half was off gaming. I have a ton of stuff in the basement that needs to be gone through, so I set up a little test bench and got to work. I have 6 computers, and out of all of them, I think I can get at least 4 of them to salvage. I’m using uBuntu 6.06 to install on them since I don’t feel right about selling a PC without an operating system. If I can find one with an OS code on it, it will get the associated OS installed on it. The beauty about selling the PC with the activation code, no matter what, you’ll always have an OS. I’ll probably take them all to the next hamfest, along with the leftover parts and cabling.

This week is auction week in the Bonante house, we’ve been putting it off too long, and we need the money for the wedding, so we’ll be listing a ton of stuff on the various auction sites.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I must enjoy torturing myself. You see, I am currently playing two games, the first is Flight Simulator, and while that can’t really be considered a game, I still play it. Yes, it is very boring, and yes, it is pointless, but then again, aren’t all games in a sense? The second is Battlefield 2, which pisses me off to no end because the game lies so badly. An example of this happened just last night. I was about 5 feet from a guy, unloaded two whole clips into him and he didn’t die, he turns around and I’m dead. Now I didn’t even hear or see the gunshot, and the display said I was killed, usually, it says by what means, but not this time, just killed. Now, come on, only in pulp fiction could someone empty a gun into someone and not have them die. Usually, I just shrug it off, but lately, I’ve been getting pissed off with the terrible physics of the game, the same terrible physics that were in Battlefield, and Battlefield 1942. Now Battlefield 2142 is coming out, and part of me wants it for the sheer fact that the future rocks, but the other part of me is worried it will suck. Try taking out a mech with a pistol, and succeed. Try taking it out with another mech, or a plasma rocket, and it takes 10 of them before it will go down.

Guess I’d better sharpen up my knife.
